Gerald 'Jerry' E. Caluda

Gerald 'Jerry' E. Caluda passed into Eternal Life on Friday, March 15, 2024, at theageof85. Jerrywasprecededindeath by his wife, Ann Pitcher Caluda, and his loving daughters, Bonnie Ann Caluda and Susan Mary Caluda. Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Schremp and Angelo Caluda, his brothers, Marion L. Caluda (Daphne), Reverend Charles J. Caluda, and Daniel S. 'Dan' Caluda (Mercedes). Jerry is survived by his sisters, Roselyn Fernandez (Anthony) and Gaynel Parker (Mac), and remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Also surviving Jerry is his very dear friend, Clydine Amie. Jerry's lifelong interest was MUSIC. While in high school, he started his first band, 'Jerry Caluda's Stardusters.' He studied music at LSU- playing trumpet in the LSU marching band. His last band was 'The Changing Times.' Jerry's bands played widely across St. Bernard (including the Our Lady of Lourdes carnival balls) and throughout the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. He also played trumpet in Pat Barberot's Orchestra and at the Bob Hope Show. For many years, Jerry worked with his brothers, Marion and Dan, in the operation of Hi-lan Food Store. He continued in the grocery business throughout his life. Jerry is best remembered for his devotion to his family and his passion for music. Services for Jerry took place at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, 701 Virtue Street, Chalmette. Visitation and mass was held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, followed by internment in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Peggy Ann Huerstel Torres

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Peggy Ann Huerstel Torres who passed away at the age of 73. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Peggy was the loving wife of the late Alvin J. Torres Jr. She was the caring mother to Catherine Torres and Ryan Torres (Amy Torres). Proud grandmother of five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister of Henry Huerstel and David Huerstel; aunt too many nieces and nephews. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Rita Huerstel; her son, Lyle Torres; her brother, Clem Huerstel Jr. Peggy was a vibrant presence at Harvest Manor nursing home, where she delighted in playing cards, bingo, and various games with fellow residents. Her contagious laughter and warm spirit brought comfort and camaraderie to all who knew her. Her greatest happiness came from sharing stories and laughter with her brothers and sisters-in-law, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cherished dearly. She will be deeply missed by her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and extended family. Peggy's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Margaret B. Savoy

Margaret B. Savoy passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 93. She was the beloved mother of Andrew Breaux (the late Sandy), Ronald Breaux (Kelly), Roxanne Chalona (Fernando) and Annette Monroe. Proud grandmother of Michelle Breaux, Melissa Breaux, Andrea Nally, Claudia Blum (Ari), Emily Breaux, Lana Rayes (Ian), Chelsie Nunez, Amanda Monroe, Melanie Agnew (Phil), Michael Chalona and Adrian Chalona. Brother to Edward L. Bosch, Jr. (Diana). She is also survived and fondly remembered by her nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Leontine (Bobbie) Bosch; her husband Andrew Breaux Jr.; husband Oscar Savoy and her sister Alice B. Arostegui. Born and raised in New Orleans, Margaret spent her formative years in the Ninth Ward, where she cultivated a spirit of resilience and warmth that would define her life. After marrying her beloved husband, Andrew 'AJ,' Margaret relocated to St. Bernard Parish, where they lovingly raised their family for 28 years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. In 2000, Margaret embarked on a new chapter of her life in Slidell, alongside her husband Oscar, with whom she shared over 23 years of marriage. She resided in Slidell until her passing. Margaret lived life to the fullest, finding joy in simple pleasures and cherished past times. She had a fondness for savoring old-fashioned scotch cocktails, dancing the night away, and engaging in lively card games. A spirited risk-taker, she relished the thrill of a night out at the casino and cherished the adventures of travel. Beyond her passions, Margaret exuded grace and elegance in all aspects of her life. She was a proud member of esteemed organizations such as the Red Hats Society, Petroleum Club, and Suburban Women's Club, where she formed enduring friendships and shared countless memorable moments. In her later years, Margaret found solace and comfort in the company of dear friends and compassionate caregivers. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lori Thomas, Brent Raccuglia, and the dedicated staff of Oak Park Village in Slidell for their unwavering support and care. Additionally, they express profound appreciation to the compassionate team at Compassus Hospice, especially Kim and Sara, for their kindness and assistance during Margaret's final days. Margaret will be remembered fondly for her laughter, zest for life, and genuine kindness that touched the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by her devoted family and countless friends. Elmere Marie Harrison

Elmere Marie Harrison passed away on March 15, 2024, on her 88th birthday. She was born in New Orleans, LA, formerly resided in Chalmette, LA and most recently resided in Metairie, LA. Elmere attended St. Cecilia grammar school where she enjoyed playing cabbage ball as a pitcher. She attended Francis T. Nicholls High School, graduating in 1955. She then began her career with BellSouth. Her first role was as an Accounting and Engineering clerk. She quickly rose the ranks to the title of Forecasting Second Level assignments. She retired from AT&T in 1987 as Staff Manager. Elmere was the first Louisianian to win a National Championship at the Women’s International Bowling Congress Tournament. In 1982 she was 'on her game' and won the All Events title in St. Louis, MO. She enjoyed avid nationwide travel, especially with her bowling friends. Elmere did not have a filter and would always speak her mind to anyone. She was active and highly independent, recently renewing her driver’s license. She opened one of the first VHS rental stores locally in the 1980s, The Video Station. She was a lifelong owner of parakeets and enjoyed making her special brownies for family events. Elmere enjoyed all LSU sports, often recording and re-watching games. She also enjoyed watching the Saints and Pelicans play. Elmere especially enjoyed her weekly Saturday nights out with friends, which she was still doing. Elmere was a devout parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. She was also a member of the New Orleans Women’s Bowling Association, Greater New Orleans US Bowling Congress and the Crescent City Council Telephone Pioneers of America. Elmere was predeceased by her parents, Charles E. Harrison, Sr. and Pauline Brown Harrison, sister, Joyce H. Wagner and twin brother Charles E. Harrison, Jr. She is survived by many dearly loved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Bryan Wagner for all the help he has given me. Alfred 'Boo' Joseph Ramirez Sr., beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the age of 70. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Ramirez and Aline Guidry Peralta Ramirez. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Vera 'Lu' Lucille Parker Ramirez. He is leaving behind cherished memories and an indelible mark on those who knew him. He is survived by and a proud father to Alfred Ramirez Jr. (Melissa), Derek Ramirez (Michelle) and Barry Ramirez (Tiffany). Caring grandfather to Dante, Alexis, Emmie, Laney, Jaycee, Barry and Bella; brother to Pamela Ramirez (Charles), Doris Peralta Gray (the late Richard) and the late Val Peralta (Marie). He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Alfred also leaves behind a companion, Charlotte Hebert Becnel. Alfred was born and raised in Violet LA, was a man of the outdoors, finding solace and joy in activities like fishing, hunting, and shrimping. Alfred also found happiness in building boats. His love for nature was evident in every expedition he embarked upon, often accompanied by his family and friends. Professionally, he dedicated his life to his craft. Earlier in his career, he contributed his talents to Buck Kreihs as a boilermaker, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with. He ended his career as a pipe fitter welder at Murphy Oil and Valero. His expertise extended to welding and pipe fitting, showcasing his dedication and precision in every project he undertook. Above all else, Alfred was devoted to his family. His children and grandchildren held a special place in his heart and were his greatest source of pride and joy. He cherished every moment spent with them, making sure to spoil them with love and his famous home-cooked meals. As we come together to celebrate Alfred’s life, let us remember the kindness in his heart, and the love he showered upon his family. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created of love and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Married for 50 years, he shared a profound and enduring love with his wife Joyce. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. An enthusiast of vintage automobiles, he found joy in admiring old cars. In his younger years, he often enjoyed caring for and riding horses in parades, reveling in the camaraderie and festivity of the occasion. Among his passions was fishing and collecting guns. Ronald Joseph Nunez, beloved husband of the late Lucille Diane Molero Nunez for 46 years whom he cherished and loved dearly; passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024 at his home, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 81. Preceded in death by his parents Ferdinand and Claire Smith Nunez. Survived by his former wife Delores Molero Coe and their daughter Monique Nunez Medley (Robert), grandfather of Joseph Mitchell Medley, II, and great-grandfather of Morty Mitchell Medley. Also, the loving father of Lisa LeBouef Howard (Jeff) and the late Numa Bernard LeBouef, Jr. Grandfather of Numa Bernard LeBouef, III (Kaylee), Alicia Lynn LeBouef, Jared Lee LeBouef, Rodney Vincent Randazzo, III (Brittnie), Lauren Randazzo Beshears (Patrick), Nicole Marie Howard (Adam), Jessica Lynn Howard, and the late Brittany Lee LeBouef. Great-grandfather of Taylor LeBouef, Daniel LeBouef, Victoria Blancaneaux, Justin LeBouef, Jaden Blancaneaux, Kaitlyn LeBouef, Brylee Randazzo, Brycen Randazzo, Rylee Gettys, Ryder Gettys, and the late John Blancaneaux, Jr.Brother of Calvin Nunez (late Emma Jean), Ervin 'Rookie' Nunez (Barbara), Phyllis Diecidue (Teddy), and the late Errol Nunez (late Jean). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. He attended St. Bernard High School where he was in the Hall of Fame as an All-Star Athlete. After graduating high school in 1960, he held the St. Bernard Parish long and triple jump records for many years. He was also a Vietnam Veteran that proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He had amazing stories about his time overseas. Additionally, Ronald was employed at Amax Nickel Refining, in Brathwaite, La. Ronnie, or 'Noonie Cat,' was a well-regarded supervisor over material handling from 1974 up until the plant shut down in 1984. In recent years, he worked as a guard at the St. Bernard Port Terminal. He had a great time working there with his coworkers and friends he made along the way. In his earlier days, he loved going fishing with his grandson, Numa, and his son-in-law, Rodney Jr. They were three peas in a pod and would come back with their fishing stories that had everyone laughing. Furthermore, Ronnie enjoyed playing golf, scratch-offs, going to the casino and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a proud Marine and for the love of his family and friends whom he adored and cherished. Daven 'Pete' Warren Scivicque, Sr.

Daven 'Pete' Warren Scivicque, Sr., a native of New Orleans and resident of Chalmette and Maurepas, La., passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the age of 84. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum after a long and distinguished career, and proudly served his country as an Army veteran. He had a deep love and passion for maintaining his yard and cherished spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Bessie Loupe Fontenot and Armo Fontenot; and his grandparents, Joseph A. Loupe and Arcise Dupuy Loupe. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Dupuy Scivicque; his children, Charlotte (Andrew) Lopiparo and Daven (Audrey) Scivicque Jr.; grandchildren, Amanda (Ashton) Licciardi, Dominique Gonzales, Michael (Madison) Lopiparo, Angelique Scivicque, and Monique Scivicque; and great-grandchildren, Amelia Licciardi, Jase Scivicque, and Adeline Licciardi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory. Rene’ Frances Uzee

Rene’ Frances Uzee was born in New Orleans, La., on February 28, 1960, to Francis “Slim” and Loretta Uzee. As a longtime resident of Ethel, La., his battle with cancer ended on February 26, 2024, two days before his 64th birthday. Rene’ was a member of Zachary Community Church. He was also the owner of Forum Salon, where he retired after 47 years, and the author of Yellow Jack. Rene’ was an artist, hairdresser, writer, chef, avid outdoorsman and had a love for gardening. He had a passion for animals and played a part in Must Luv Dogs rescue, where he rescued his pup, Trooper. Most importantly, Rene’ loved to spend time with his friends and family. Rene’ never met a stranger. If he did, after talking with Rene’ the other person left feeling like he was a best friend. Rene’ touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. He was a warrior and a fighter. After bravely battling cancer for 17 years, he never lost optimism, inspiring everyone with his faith, resilience, and strength. Rene’ is survived by his wife, Brenda Watson Uzee of Ethel; daughters, Crystal Elam (Matthew) of Ethel and Leslie Matte of Slaughter; brother-in-law, Henry A. Watson Jr (Penny) of Ethel; sister-in-law Lisa Shaffer (Joey) of Clinton; brother, Andre Uzee (Melanie) of Baton Rouge; granddaughters Cassie Fudge and Camryn Sibley; grandson Mason Elam; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rene’ was preceded in death by his parents, Frances “Slim” Uzee and Loretta Uzee; brother, Pierre Uzee; sister, Francis Uzee; and mother-in-law, Carolyn Watson. Relatives and friends of the family attended a Visitation and Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., in Baton Rouge. Officiant: Pastor Danny Greig. Heartfelt gratitude to his friends loved ones and MD Anderson hospital staff who gave him tremendous support with their love and friendship as he raced to the finish line to be with the Lord.
