Gwendolyn Marie Everage entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the age of 71. She was a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of Arabi, La. Gwendolyn was a graduate of George Washington Carver Sr. High School. She was a former employee with the Seattle Convention Center as an event aide for 12 years. Beloved daughter the late Clarence C. Everage, Sr. and Emmerite Kelly Everage. Sister of Pamela E. Devezin, Lesa D. Everage, Clarence C. (Gwendolyn) Everage, Jr., Larry D. (Leslie) Everage, Michael A. Everage, and the late Barbara Jean Everage. Aunt of the late Danielle K. Everage, also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Gregory Gerald DiMaggio Sr.

Gregory “Hammer” DiMaggio, Sr., passed away on May 4th at the age of 75 in Sevierville, Tn. He was born in New Orleans on January 7, 1949 and grew up in Arabi, La. He spent most of his life in St. Bernard parish and always missed it when he was away. He loved watching sports of any kind, and he was an avid golfer for many years. The game, and the friends he made because of golf brought him his greatest happiness, and his time with The Vern’s club was some of the best times in his life. He also loved gambling, music, and the corniest comedy movies. He proudly served his country, enlisting in the Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed forces Expeditionary Medal for his time in Korea. He retired from Veolia after having worked as the mechanical maintenance manager within the New Orleans Sewage and Water Board for more than 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold DiMaggio Sr. and Inez Richards DiMaggio, his brother Harold DiMaggio Jr., and his wife of 50 years Vera Bass DiMaggio. He is survived by his children Rebecca St. Philip (Michael) and Gregory DiMaggio Jr. (Kathie), grandchildren Devin DiMaggio, Logan DiMaggio, Joleen DiMaggio, Lannie St. Philip, Cailey St. Philip, two step-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends, including a dear friend Karen Henderson. He will be coming home to the town he loved, and a memorial may be planned for a future date. He really didn’t want any kind of fuss over him so it may just be a round of golf and a toast to Papa.

Gail Rose Fayard entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the age of 78. Daughter of the late John Irvin Fayard and Rose Marquize Fayard. Sister of Lydia Fayard Beverung (Warren) and the late Ruth Fayard Ishee (Charlie). Loving aunt to Chip Beverung (Rachel), Brandy Beverung, Charles 'Scott' Ishee (Liz), Bryan Ishee (Diana) and the late Jennifer Ishee. Great aunt of Tiffani Lopiccolo (Joe), Paul Petitto (Katie), Gabrielle Ishee, Miles Frye, Max Frye, Lily Beverung, Lila Roberts, Luke Beverung, Gavin Ishee and great-great-aunt to Castin 'Cassi' Lopiccolo. She is also survived by her dear friends, the Logrande and Baldassaro families. Gail was a native of Arabi, La., and a resident of Gretna, La. She was a former teacher and assistant principal at P.G.T. Beauregard High School. She enjoyed playing Bridge at the Bridge Center in Metairie. Gail loved to laugh and always had a joke to tell. The celebration of her life will be on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Christ The King Catholic Church, 535 Deerfield Rd., Terrytown, La. It will begin with a visitation starting at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11 am and then a Memorial Gathering immediately following the Mass until 2 p.m. in the Knight of Columbus building next to the church. Golda Axen Buras

On Saturday May 11, 2024, Golda Axen Buras passed away peacefully at home in Pearl River, La., at the age of 84. She was surrounded by her husband and family when she left her earthly body. Golda was born in Bogalusa, La., where she grew up until moving to New Orleans, La., with her mother, Rose Marie Casanova Copous. She graduated in 1959 from F.T Nicholls High School in New Orleans and was competitive in intramural sports. Golda married her high school sweetheart, Noel H. Buras, Jr. on October 1, 1960. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in 2023. She was a longtime resident of Chalmette, La. After Hurricane Katrina, she and her husband finally settled in Pearl River, La. She is survived by her loving husband, Noel H. Buras, Jr. and her two children Noel H. Buras, III (Bessy) and Heidi Buras Palmeri (Bruce). She loved her nine grandchildren: Jonathon Buras (Ali), Amy Palmeri James (Steven), Kaylie Buras, Thomas Palmeri (Courtney), Taylor Buras Rodriguez (J.J.), James Palmeri (Meagan), Juliane Buras, Eugene Molinary, and Casey Molinary (Raquel). She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren, #19 is due in September. Golda retired from Lockheed Martin Aerospace in 1993 and was an active member of AARP 5408. She was strong in her faith, studied her bible daily. She taught vacation bible school for many years and taught pre-school at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in its early years. In memory of Robert J Pell, Jr., a devoted husband, father and grandfather; who passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the age of 76. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He left a legacy of hard work and craftsmanship as a millwright by trade but was known by many as Bob Pell the roofer. While he found joy on the golf course, his heart truly belonged to his family, cherishing every moment spent with them. Robert was the loving husband of Lorraine Pell. Bobbie Mae Noble Scaglione died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Lloyd Scaglione and her firstborn son Michael Andrew Scaglione. Mother of Lonnie Scaglione Favre and Mark Joseph Scaglione. Motherin- law of Judy Spicuzza Scaglione, Otis W. Favre Jr. and Cheryl Loyacano Scaglione. Daughter of the late Curtis S. Noble and Lizzie P. Noble. Sister of the late Gene Noble Foley. Daughter-in-law of the late Anna Santa Sciambra Scaglione and Joseph L. Scaglione. Grandmother to Chad (Laurel), Clint (Brittany), Cody (Mollee) and Chase (Lindsay) Favre, Reed (Fiancee Brielle) and Mya (Fiancee Ro) Scaglione, and Michael (Hayley) Scaglione. Great-grandmother to Liam Noble Favre, Sarah Helen Favre, Ava Marie Scaglione, Lilly Paige Scaglione, Tucker Christopher Favre, Camille Jean Favre, Marlee Mae Favre, Monnie Martin Favre, Colette Marie Favre, Haven Cruz Wolfe, Jack Michael Favre and Otis Benjamin Favre. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Bobbie was born in Evergreen, Louisiana and moved to New Orleans as a child. She went to school at McDonough 16, which is where she met the love of her life, Joe. They were married in 1952 and began life as a Navy wife soon after. She lived in Rhode Island while Joe traveled around the world aboard the USS Charles J. Badger. He brought Bobbie many treasures from the exotic places he traveled, but his true treasure was always his loving wife. After enlisted life they moved to Chalmette and began raising their family. Bobbie worked in various jobs and then began working for Mr. Bobby Torres. She continued working for him in different capacities in his various business ventures until her retirement in her late 60’s. Being widowed at the age of 64, Bobbie spent her time traveling with friends and family and enjoying the company of her many grandchildren. She was affectionately called Memaw by everyone - and we mean everyone. Her beautiful smile and her ability to laugh with you and at herself gained her a multitude of “adopted grandchildren.” She continued being the bright light in the room even as her memory diminished. During her last few years, she developed a special relationship with her caregiver, Stacey Bryan, as well as gaining many new friends while living at Summerhouse Park Provence. The Favre and Scaglione Families would like to thank Stacey as well as the devoted and endlessly caring staff of Summerhouse Park Provence. Your dedication to our Memaw was truly a treasured gift to us all. Bobbie was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and a member of the Slidell Women’s Civic Club as well as a member of the Suburban Women’s Club of St. Bernard. She was well loved and affectionately known for her good nature and generous heart. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace with her memory forever cherished in our hearts. With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Susan Elena Roig, who passed away surrounded by her loving family at the age of 83. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. Susan was the loving wife of James Robert Roig for 64 wonderful years. Caring mother of Darren Roig (Starnell) and Dean Roig (Kim); grandmother to Alexa Deffes (Ryan), Connor Roig (Jordan), Cassidy Rucker (Jonathan), Trent Kestler, Jenna Roig, Brittany Kestler, Jody Honold and Joshua Honold; great- grandmother to 14 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Barone and Doris D’ Aunoy; her children, Derek Roig and Danielle Kestler (George); her sister Doris Dellsperger (the late Charlie). Susan devoted 64 beautiful years to her beloved husband, creating a bond that stood the test of time as a beacon of commitment and devotion. A nurturing wife, a devoted mother, and a doting grandmother, she poured her heart into her family, weaving a tapestry of love and support that will endure for generations to come. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her loved ones. In her younger years, she found solace and joy in the vibrant strokes of oil painting, leaving behind a collection of masterpieces that continue to adorn the walls of the family home, each canvas a testament to her creativity and passion. Yet, her greatest source of joy was found in the simple moments spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Whether gathered around the dinner table or sharing stories by the fireside, she reveled in the warmth of their company, finding happiness in the bonds that held them together. Beverly Thompson Pilet

Beverly Thompson Pilet of Slidell, La., passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024, surrounded by family at her son's home in Lacombe, La., at the age of 87. Beverly was born in New Orleans to Samuel B. Thompson and Rita Giroir Thompson on January 21, 1937. She grew up in the St. Claude neighborhood of the New Orleans Ninth Ward and graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School. It was there that she met her husband and father of her four boys. Beverly dedicated her life to raising her children and taking care of family members in need. She enjoyed many activities with her friends including bowling, watching football and Cops, going to the casino, cooking, and gardening. Beverly is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Pilet, Sr., and her oldest son John W. Pilet, Jr. (Claudia). She is also preceded in death by her parents and siblings (Donald Thompson, Barbara Schreiber, Betty Wertz and Lorena Greenleaf. She is survived by her sons Gerald (Judy), Jeffrey (Sheila), James, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to Vital Care Hospice (especially Alexis and Monica) for their care and support during our time of need. George Stanfill

George Stanfill of Covington and Violet, La., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the age of 94. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gayle Desselles (Wayne) and Peter Stanfill (Trisha); grandchildren Amy Desselles Yager, Jacob Desselles, Evan Stanfill and Cameron Stanfill. He is also survived by his brother Dennis Stanfill, as well as cousins and life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Olga Ormond Stanfill, and parents Sam Broome Stanfill and Hattie Carothers Stanfill. George was born in a log cabin on a hill by the Duck River in Centerville, Tn., on July 26, 1929. He grew up an avid reader, loving the outdoors, & playing football, basketball & baseball. George attended Maryville College in eastern Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. But before graduating, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Marines Corps as an officer in the Korean War, during which he was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. After his recovery and honorable discharge, George returned to graduate from Maryville College. One of George's post-war jobs brought him to Louisiana, where he met Olga Ormond of New Orleans. They married after a brief courtship on November 23, 1957. George then began a lifelong career as an Educator, beginning with 5th graders at Covington Elementary. He earned a Master's in Education from the University of New Orleans (UNO) after he and his new family moved to Violet, La., where George taught Social Studies, History and Civics at St. Bernard High School for almost 30 years, making an impact on several generations of young folks in St. Bernard Parish. Many of his students fondly remember Mr. Stanfill & the many different activities he got them involved in, such as the Weekly News Quiz, & Local/Regional/ State Social Studies Fairs, to enhance their learning. George treated everyone with respect and was a kind southern gentleman throughout his whole life. He always knew the right things to say to folks to make them feel valued. An avid sports fan, George loved to pull for the Saints and Louisiana State University Football. He coached youth basketball, and also enjoyed teaching the art of fly fishing. He was a fisherman from his early Tennessee days of freshwater and creek fishing to inland saltwater fishing in lower St. Bernard later in life. Golf was another source of pleasure, especially on Brathwaite Golf course and the N.O. City Park courses. He loved dogs, especially small dogs that reminded him of one of his favorites, 'Gnat.' He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Restoration/Sage Lakes assisted living of Covington, and at Traditions Hospice, for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. George Stanfill may be made to The Nature Conservancy (Louisiana), or the NorthShore Humane Society.
