After a lifetime of welcoming people in her home and heart, Barbara left behind so much more than memories– she left behind a feeling. A feeling of warmth, kindness, laughter, good food, adventure, deep faith, and a sense of belonging. No one made life more beautiful. Barbara Carman DiMaggio, age 70, passed on Saturday, July 25, 2026 after a tough battle with cancer. She went peacefully to the Lord surrounded by family, friends, love, and laughter. Her legacy lives on in her two children and her granddaughter–her son and daughterin- law, Marc and Tracy DiMaggio, and her daughter and son-in-law Angela and Charles Seibert. Their daughter, Carman, was Barbara's light and heart. Their bond was a thing of beauty, and no one was a better Grandmere than Barbara. Barbara’s siblings are Gaynell Downs (John), Diane Barrosse, Patrick Carman, Lillian Barras (Rusty), and the late Gerald Carman (Louise). Barbara is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews as well as countless others who proudly call her “Aunt Barbara.” Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Marc Anthony DiMaggio. Our hearts find joy in imagining that Marc was there to welcome her home, and after eight long years apart, they are together again. Barbara was an artist to the core. Although she spent more than 30 years as a bookkeeper at a corporate law firm, her life’s work was making the world more beautiful. Whether through her paintings, the magic she created each Christmas, her legendary oyster dressing, or the warmth she shared so freely, everyone who knew Barbara believed the world was a more beautiful place because she was in it. If you knew her, you knew that “Sure, Sure” was her answer to lunch, a road trip, picking up her granddaughter, or just about any invitation that meant spending time with loved ones. When heaven called her home, we are sure she smiled, looked at Marc, and simply answered one last invitation with, “Sure, Sure.” Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at Our Lady Of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 2320 Paris Road, Chalmette Louisiana, 70043 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM. A mass will begin at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Cypress Grove Cemetery, 120 City Park Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119.
