Julia Ferrera Perkins

Mrs. Julia Ferrera Perkins, 86, of Chalmette, Louisiana, passed away on July 10, 2026. Born on October 1, 1939, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection as a beloved and faithful woman whose resilience shaped a life of purpose and devotion. With a courageous heart, she came to America at eighteen, knowing no English, yet determined to build a better life. Through hard work, perseverance, and God’s grace, she mastered the language, built a beautiful home and family, and embraced every opportunity before her. She found joy in traveling, caring for those she loved, and cooking the best Honduran dishes. Her life stood as a testament to faith, resilience, and hope, and her legacy of love will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her husband, John Norwood Perkins, and her mother, Carmen Alvarez. She is survived by her sons, Gary Perkins, John Perkins, Danny Perkins, and Michael Perkins; eight grandchildren, Matthew Perkins, Christina Perkins, Katelynn Perkins, Ryan Perkins, Sarah Perkins, Hannah Perkins, Michael Perkins, and Danielle Perkins; her siblings, sister Janice Ferrera and brother Luis Ferrera; her nieces Julie Ferrera Foster and Christina Ferrera Hopcraft; and numerous great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA 70043, US, on July 15, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Funeral Service in Mrs. Perkins’ honor will follow at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to eternal rest at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens at a later date.
