It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lyndell Joan Dummet, age 82, of Chalmette, Louisiana. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Lyndell spent her life caring for others and making a lasting difference in the lives of the people around her. She was a devoted mother of two and a woman whose compassion, strength, and dedication touched countless lives. In the 1990s, Lyndell and her family moved to Chalmette, where she made many wonderful memories and became deeply connected to the community. Later in life, she moved to Gillsburg, Mississippi, enjoying the peace and beauty of country life. Two years ago, she returned to the family home in Chalmette, a place filled with memories and love. Lyndell dedicated nearly 30 years of her life to nursing at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, where she worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Caring for the tiniest and most vulnerable patients was more than a career for her—it was a calling. Her gentle nature, caring heart, and commitment to her patients made her a cherished nurse and colleague. Above all, Lyndell was a mother. Her greatest joy was her family, and she treasured the time spent with her children and those she loved. She will be remembered for her caring spirit, her strength, her sense of devotion, and the love she so freely gave to others. She leaves behind her two children, Jason Erik Peterson (Brandy) and Jennifer Blue Peterson Plateo (the late Alan), along with other family members, and many friends, former colleagues, and loved ones who will carry her memory in their hearts. Lyndell is preceded in death by her parents, Murrell and Mandell Dummet; her siblings, Carolyn, Karen, Donna, Rush and Ashton. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and caring will live on through her family and through the many lives she touched during her nearly three decades of nursing. Rest peacefully, Mom. Your work here is done, but your love will remain with us always. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST.
