Henry J. Charpio, Jr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the age of 86. He was a native of New Orleans, La., and a current resident of Chalmette, La. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Diane Burgard Charpio; children Jeanine Costanza (Larry), Henry J. Charpio, III (Debbie), and Jannell Charpio Masson; grandchildren Cassie Masson (Tre), Megan Jones (Shaun), Jake Costanza (Samantha), Jay Masson, Cristina Costanza, Mallory Charpio; great-grandchildren Michael, Caiden, Aniya, Savannah, Brinley, Shaun, Rhett, Robbie, Avery; and brother-in-law James Burgard (Dana).
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry J. Charpio Sr., his mother, Anita Frantz Charpio; his sister, Joan Charpio Riggio (Felix); and brother-in-law Edward Burgard (Patricia). Henry was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and deer hunting. He loved family time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his younger years he was an athlete. He ran track and played football at Francis T. Nicholls High School. He had a long career as a truck driver for Herrin, McLean and Yellow Trucking Companies. He also enjoyed coaching football at Vista Park and the Southerner's Travel football teams. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 p.m. to be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Paris Rd., in Chalmette, La., on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
