Frederick John Zimmerle

Frederick John Zimmerle passed away on April 13, 2024 at his home in Pearl River, La., after a long illness at the age of 77. The only child of the late Frederick George Zimmerle and the late Lorraine Mohr Zimmerle, he was comforted by his loving wife of 57 years, Joanne Pasquith Zimmerle, and their devoted daughters, Rachel Zimmerle Roy and Sharon Zimmerle Taravella. He loved spending time with his grandsons, Adam Roy and Justin Taravella, his granddaughter, Ashley Taravella and a special granddaughter, Lauren Royerre LeBlanc. A native of New Orleans, he graduated from St. Mary of the Angels Elementary School and St. Aloysius High School. He attended the University of New Orleans until he joined the Air Force Reserve. In addition, he had a 34-year career in communications at AT&T on Poydras Street before his retirement. After leaving his job, Fred continued to support several organizations that helped the less fortunate, including the AT&T Pioneers, a network of volunteers who effect immediate change in local communities. Fred and his family lived in Chalmette, his parents in Arabi, until Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After the storm, Fred moved the family to Picayune, Ms., where they lived for the next 12 years. In 2019, Fred and his wife returned to Louisiana where he lived until his passing. He is survived by his cousins Aleasia Mohr Wust (Alan Sr.), Aleasia Michelle Rizzuto Lill Stall (Gary), and Angela Roy (Ronald Roy) and their children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his uncle John Mohr, his aunt Eola Mohr, and cousins Eola 'Doll' Rizzuto Boudoin, Aaron Wust, and Alan Wust Jr. The family celebrated Frederick's life with a small private ceremony.
