Donald J. Pomes peacefully entered eternal rest while surrounded by his loving family on Monday November 11, 2024 at the age of 84. Mr. Pomes was born on August 24, 1940 in New Orleans, La., and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, La. Donnie was the loving son of the late Marian S. Pomes and Louis A. Pomes. He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Ray Anthony Pomes and Donna Marie Pomes, as well as his adored granddaughters, Ashley Pomes and Crystal Pomes. Also preceded in death by his brother Ronnie A. Pomes and sister-in-law Fay B. Pomes. Donnie was the proud and loving father of Jay L. Pomes and Louis D. Pomes (Cherie). He is survived by his grandchildren Darrell Pomes and Joshua Pomes, along with his great-grandchildren Hayden Louis Pomes Edwards, London Ray Alvarez, Brayden Pomes and Elijah Pomes. He is also survived by his sisters Betty P. Thompson (Arthur), Debra P. Daigrepont (Emile) and Marybeth P. Castay (Jimmy), as well as his Aunt Rose Taylor and godchild Marilyn Melby. He was adored and cherished by a host of nieces and nephews from the Pomes and Nehlig families, as well as many cousins and life-long friends. Donnie was a devout Christian, read his bible daily and will be remembered for his strong, unwavering faith, love of Christ and family. Donnie had a life-long passion of caring for animals through his many years of work and even after retirement. He was a member of the N.O. Criminal Sheriff’s Office from 1966-1974. Donnie was also commissioned with NOPD under Louis Hyde in 1966. He was a dispatcher for 53 years prior to his retirement in 2017. Donnie will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He will forever remain in our hearts. Relatives invited to attend a Visitation at 9:30 a.m.; open Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Rd., in St. Bernard, La.
