Cleo Schmidt Watson

Cleo Schmidt Watson passed away peacefully on Friday August 29, 2025 at the age of 88. She was the cherished wife of the late Joseph Watson Jr. Daughter of the late George Schmidt Sr. and Delores Alcorn Schmidt. Loving mother of Georgette Delores Watson. Sister of the late Catherine Recuirt Robino, Louis Recuirt, Audrey Recuirt Lewis, Marion Recuirt Menesses and George W. Schmidt Jr. Proud grandmother of Michelle Lynn Bozant Betz (Bryan) and the late Remy Jonathan Bozant (Erica). Great grandmother of Joleigh Amarii Betz, Mazie Rhiann Betz and the late Asher James. Cleo was born and raised in St. Bernard Parish, where her friendly nature and strong work ethic took root. In 1979, she moved to Braithwaite Park, beginning a new chapter in her life with new joy and passions, gardening and golf. She proudly dedicated 36 years to her career at Jackson Barracks. Even after retiring, her commitment to public service continued as she remained active in Government Civil Service for several more years. Her former colleagues remember her not only for her dedication and professionalism but also for her kindness. It was in Braithwaite that Cleo discovered one of her greatest joys - golf. In 1990, she and her beloved husband Joseph relocated to Diamondhead, MS where their shared love of the game blossomed. Together, they played nearly every day, becoming well-known members of the Diamondhead community where they both created so many memories together. Cleo and Joseph also found great joy in travel, exploring the beauty of golf courses across the country and making new friends. Above all else, Cleo was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a proud grandmother. Her warmth, strength and unwavering love for her family will always be remembered. She touched many lives with her generous heart and bright spirit and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A private service will be held for Cleo. She will be laid to eternal rest with her beloved husband, Joseph, in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
