Mary Freda Allen of Meraux, La., passed away on November 7, 2024 at TriCities Hospital in Hopewell, Va., at the age of 95. Freda was born on August 6, 1929 in Memphis, Tenn. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Eugene D. Allen of Meraux, La. She is survived by four sons: Richard Allen of Dallas, Ga.: Gary Allen (Ladonna) of Bush, La.: Michael Allen (Rita) of Meraux, La.: and Thomas Allen (Kelley) of Carson, Va. Her grandchildren are Garrett Allen (Michelle) of Los Angeles, Calif.: Aaron Schmiderer of Bossier City, La.; Jason Schmiderer (Alex) of Benton, Ark.; Jarrett Arnold (Ashton) of Cummings, Ga.; Chelsea Chowning (Eddie) of Dallas, Ga.; Hayley Desmarais and husband Justin of Virginia Beach, Va.; Heidi Allen (Will) of Suffolk, Va.; Jana Bauers (Nate) of Chesapeake, Va., and Nathan Allen (Dasha) of North Chesterfield, Va. She also has 11 amazing great-grandchildren. Freda was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She enjoyed her family, friends and church. She moved to Virginia in 2021, and was very active in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, in Colonial Heights, Va. She was a very outgoing and sociable person who loved to be in the middle of everything. She had a passion for Facebook and living on her iPad. Additionally, she really loved to sew and embroider. She also loved her church and Sunday School class more than anything. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Brighter Living Assisted Living, in Hopewell, Va., for the amazing love and care that they provided for our Mom in her final years.
