Roy Peter Richard, Jr., a resident of Chalmette, La., unexpectedly passed away on January 31, 2024 in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico; at the age of 64. The son of Roy P. Richard, Sr., and Earline Jane Richard, he was born on May 4, 1959 in New Orleans, La. Roy is survived by his loving spouse, Timothy 'Ryan' McCann, with whom he spent 17 years together. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Richard rebuilt his own home without the help of a construction crew.
The experience motivated him to continue his career in finish/trim carpentry and later returned to construction work at the age of 52. Roy's ability to construct and put-up combination crown molding earned him several jobs in the historic French Quarter and New Orleans area. His larger projects include the New Orleans VA Medical Center and New Orleans Nature Center. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing. Having grown up in St. Bernard Parish, Roy referred to the water as being his 'second home.' He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends of the family attended a Visitation and Funeral Mass officiated by Reverend Andy Gonzalez at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Fenelon St., in Chalmette; held in Roy's memory. Interment: St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, Chalmette, La.
