Paul Jay Schultz, also known as 'Whitey, Jay Bird, Bulldog and Little Grandpa,' who resided in Baton Rouge, La., for 45 years; passed away on June 20, 2024, after a brief battle with a rare cancer at the age of 70. Born on March 22, 1954, in Arabi, La., he attended St. Mary's Italian School and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1972. From 1972 to 1976, as a walk-on, he played four years of baseball at Southeastern Louisiana and received many athletic achievements and awards, leading the team in doubles and home runs for many years with a batting average consistently over .300. He was named to the NCAA District and All-Star Team - 3rd Baseman, All GSC teams, and All Southland Conference teams multiple times during his college career. One of his proudest memories and accomplishments was when the 1975 team was the only team in the school's history to make an appearance in the College World Series, coming in 3rd place. # 28 in your programs, but # 1 in your heart. In 1973, he met the love of his life, his Golden Girl, 'Annie.' They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on March 22 of this year. In 1983, he started his own CPA firm, Paul Jay Schultz, CPA, where he quickly became a valued member of the community, building lifelong relationships where clients became family. His favorite past times were hunting and fishing with his closest friends and family, vacationing at the beach and betting at the dog track, watching LSU and SELU baseball games, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. Paul's fierce love for his family and friends was evident in all that he did, and he cherished the time spent with them, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Joseph and Mary Grace Misuraca Schultz. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ann Marie Donnelly Schultz. His four children, Derek P. Schultz (Rebecca), Erika S. Saltzberg (David), Kara S. Cheek (Benjamin), and Kayce S. Millet (Lucas). His nine grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Daniel Schultz; Caleb, Riley, and Flynn Saltzberg; Ariah and Tye Cheek; and Abram and Evangeline Millet. He is also survived by his brother, Randall Schultz (Karen), his beloved nanny, Rose Lynn Misuraca Scott, his Panny and Aunt, Frank J. and Charlene Misuraca, his Aunt Elma Rita Schultz Vale, along with numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom he loved dearly. The family wishes to thank all of the medical staff and many health care professionals at Mary Bird Perkins, Baton Rouge General Medical Center, and Ochsner MD Anderson for their compassion and care for him. Relatives and friends of the family attended a Visitation, Catholic Mass and Funeral Services on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave., in Baton Rouge, La., 70808. 'Paul's' bearers were Derek Schultz, Benjamin Cheek, Lucas Millet, Randall Schultz, George Freeman, and Larry Zeller. Also, the Honorary 'Paul's' bearers were his nine grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Daniel Schultz, Caleb, Riley, and Flynny Saltzberg; Ariah and Tye Cheek; and Abram and Evangeline Millet.
