Juanita Maria Ibieta Laborde passed away on May 30, 2024 at the age of 88. She is survived by her beloved children Renée Laborde (John Jerit) & Jean Laborde; grandchildren Ashley Metcalfe Andrews (Brad), Amy Metcalfe Smith (Jared) & Abbie Metcalfe; and great-grandchildren Graham Andrews & Ali Grace Smith. She was the beloved wife of the late Maurice Laborde, and daughter of the late Juan Bautista Ibieta I & the late Dorothy 'Bobby' Dauterive, and sister of the late Juan Bautista Ibieta II (the late Fabia Guillot Ibieta) & the late Frederick Ibieta (Gail Barrios Ibieta). She was a graduate of Arabi High School, Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Liberal & Technical Learning (now University of Louisiana-Lafayette) majoring in Microbiology (Bachelor of Science), and Nicholls State University (Master of Education). After marriage and having children, she embarked on her lifelong career as a science teacher at Andrew Jackson High School for a nearly 30-year career, followed by a retirement that was full of volunteering and service at several civic and cultural organizations in the New Orleans area, including the New Orleans Symphony, the AARP (serving as the Louisiana Legislature Chairman), the Isleños Museum (serving as Docent), and the Alliance for Good Government; these activities led to the enlargement of her group of many dear friends. She was also a proud, fervent patron of the cultural arts & public broadcasting in New Orleans.
