Nunez Community College has joined forces with New Orleans East Hospital (NOEH) and the Louisiana Board of Regents to create an innovative new program that will help NOEH employees currently working in non-nursing positions to earn a career and technical certifi cate in Nunez’s Practical Nursing Program, enabling them to take the NCLEX exam to become Licensed Practical Nurses. Nunez’s Practical Nursing Program has maintained a 100% pass rate for NCLEX for over 10 years.

On Monday, August 28, a recently formed St. Bernard Parish community group named Concerned Parents for Students of St. Bernard Schools organized a town hall meeting in the council chambers to address a recent fight in Chalmette High School (CHS).

On the morning of August 29, US Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) took part in a ceremony honoring residents of St. Bernard Parish who lost their lives due to Hurricane Katrina. While there, he gave brief remarks and was joined by Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and local elected officials.

The St. Bernard Port, Harbor and Terminal District held its regular Board of Commissioners meeting. This meeting included the appointment of two new board members: Captain Thomas B. Ajubita, and David L. Kenney, Jr.

The St. Bernard Parish Government (SBPG) held an emergency council meeting on Tuesday, August 29 in order to handle an issue with their legal representation in regards to the lawsuit filed in early August against the Port of New Orleans. In addition to this lawsuit, SBPG also hired legal counsel for a lawsuit against SBPG filed by the Port of New Orleans in Orleans Parish.

Talk about a dynamic duo. Recently, two educators from Chalmette High School, Justin Templet and David Bellard, were honored for their commitment, innovation and dedication to their high school students and school community.
