Emmit Valentine Strain, Jr. died peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 11, 1943. He graduated from John McDonogh High School and Delgado Community College. He retired after working as a machinist at Prager Inc. for 41 years. He was a proud member of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers. Emmit was preceded in death by his parents, Emmit V Strain, Sr. and Rose Bagur Strain and his sisters: Rita “Lynn” Gallet (J.D.) and Sherrill “Butsie” Foret (Charles). He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ellen Poche Strain and his children Timothy Strain (Charlene) and Karen Strain Binder (Michael). He was the proud and loving Papoo of four grandsons: Patrick Strain, Robert Strain, Michael Binder, Jr. and Dylan Binder. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his brother-inlaw, Richard Poche (Rosemary). Emmit loved his family, fishing, visits to a casino, sitting on his front porch, driving his grandchildren to activities and places from the LeBeau House to the Toca Pet Cemetery. He also loved playing cards with friends, piddling in his garage, and fixing just about anything. He would help anyone, anywhere, anytime of the day or night. Above all, Emmit was a devoted husband, father, Papoo, uncle, and friend. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM-1:00PM.
