It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Edward Payne, Sr., affectionately known as “Paw,” passed on May 15, 2025, at the age of 98, surrounded by his loving family. Ralph was the devoted husband of Josephine “Linda” Mackles Payne, with whom he shared 77 years of marriage. He was the beloved father of Larry Payne, Peggy Payne Molero, Lola Payne Adams, and the late Ralph Payne, Jr. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Fred J. Payne and Daisy Good Payne. Ralph was raised on a farm, where he developed a strong work ethic. He honorably served in the United States military during World War II. After returning home, he worked in manufacturing and later in river transport, where he met his beloved Josephine. He eventually built a lifelong career in construction. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Fred, Juanita, Bob, Mary, Kenny, Doris, Earl, and an infant sibling. He is survived by his children, 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. Ralph will be remembered for his integrity, warmth, and unwavering generosity. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched. A Memorial Service was be held in Paw’s honor at the Jackson Barracks Multi Use Complex, New Orleans on Thursday, June 5th, 2025.
