OLPS Tomato Festival Set for April 21-23

The 72nd Our Lady of Prompt Succor Parish Tomato Festival will be from Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23 on the school/church grounds, 2320 Paris Road, Chalmette, complete with good food, live local entertainment, games and rides.

St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann and members of the Sheriff’s Office were among the volunteers to help St. Bernard Parish special needs students have their turn in the spotlight on March 10 at the St. Bernard Parish Public School System’s 2023 Louisiana Special Olympics. More than 100 students participated in this year’s event which took place on the track and football fields at Chalmette High School’s Bobby Nuss Stadium. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau and Special Investigations Division assisted special-needs students as they competed in a variety of track and field events throughout the day, including the softball throw, standing long jump, 100-meter run and wheelchair race.

The Irish Italian Islenos parade was once again a great success. With lots of floats and riders, everyone had a great time. The parade route was lined with a smorgasbord of food and cookouts with family and friends. Everyone was able to catch a pantry full of veggies with six hundred thousand pounds of produce. Brian Gab of B&G Grocery said it was 13 tractor trailers of produce they supplied. With over 50 floats, the parade traveled the usual route on Judge Perez Drive. The parade goers were from the region and lined the street several deep.
