St. Bernard Parish District-Wide Students of the Year

Three outstanding St. Bernard Parish students were recently named as District-Wide Students of the Year. Jack McMullin, Isabella Held, and Coby Barrow were the respective winners of the elementary, middle, and high school divisions. These students were recognized for excellence in and out of the classroom.

Meraux Foundation and LSU AgCenter Partnership Bears Fruit

Over one thousand pounds of satsumas grown by the LSU AgCenter at the Center for Louisiana Citrus Innovation and Research at Docville Farm are being donated to local food banks. The fruit was grown as part of an agricultural demonstration project that is looking at best practices for growing citrus trees in containers and within screened enclosures to protect them from pests and freezing temperatures and to allow more trees to be grown per acre.

SBPH Names Assistant Vice President of Operations

St. Bernard Parish Hospital (SBPH) recently named Kim Ellender its Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Operations, effective December 4. Ellender’s credentials include more than 20 years of experience in healthcare management across Louisiana and Texas.

Academic Games Season Kicks Off at Maumus Center

The Maumus Center in Old Arabi was the site for a recent academic competition when St. Bernard Parish Public School students took part in On-Sets and Propaganda, two of the four games that make up the Academic Games season.

OLPS Junior Boys’ Flag Football Team First in District

The Our Lady of Prompt Succor (OLPS) Junior flag football team from Chalmette finished in first place in District and was Conference Runner-up for the Catholic School Athletic League. “The Junior flag football team had a great season with a record of 7 wins and 3 losses,” Athletic Director Kathy Scheuermann said.
