It’s no secret that prices for many items are costing us more than in the past. This is true also in the garden center, where spring transplants are beginning to make an appearance. The price of potting soil, fertilizers, seeds and liners, and especially horticultural plastics (pots, trays, etc.) is up compared to years past, due in part to issues with the supply chain, which is passed on to the consumer. It’s become more important to shop smart and choose plants that will perform well in our growing zone (USDA 9B) so that we aren’t throwing money away on plants that will be dead in a year or less.

MISS LOUISIANA TEEN USA 2023

The new Miss Louisiana Teen USA is Averi Blyss Crawford of Baton Rouge. Representing the title of St. Bernard Parish onstage, the reigning Miss Teen St. Bernard Parish Redfish Festival Queen won the crown Saturday night at the Jefferson Parish Performing Arts Center in Metairie in a high energy competition.

LA Crawfish, Tomato Festivals win LAFF awards

Both St. Bernard Parish's Louisiana Crawfish and Tomato Festivals received three distinguished awards 'under the Big Top.' 'There was not a dry eye as we accepted this prestigious award after all the hard work, dedication and heart that was poured into the festival year after year,' described Abbey Bigner, a Chalmette resident and Miss Louisiana Crawfish Festival Queen XIX; after receiving the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals' (LAFF) Festival of the Year Award.
