It’s no secret that prices for many items are costing us more than in the past. This is true also in the garden center, where spring transplants are beginning to make an appearance. The price of potting soil, fertilizers, seeds and liners, and especially horticultural plastics (pots, trays, etc.) is up compared to years past, due in part to issues with the supply chain, which is passed on to the consumer. It’s become more important to shop smart and choose plants that will perform well in our growing zone (USDA 9B) so that we aren’t throwing money away on plants that will be dead in a year or less.
