Paula Ann Vicari entered everlasting life on January 2, 2026. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Paul Raymond Vicari and Camille Palisi Vicari. She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Vicari Liberto; her brother-in-law, Dr. Vincent N. Liberto; her nieces, Lucinda Ann Liberto and MaryBeth Liberto Schnauder; and her nephews, Captain Vincent N. Liberto, Jr. (Tracey) and David Philip Liberto. Paula is survived by her nephews Ignatius Paul Liberto (Rhonda) and Salvadore Anthony Liberto (Amy), and her niece Camella Liberto Grau (Ben), as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Paula lived an amazing life despite the challenges of a childhood illness that changed the course of her life. She never forgot a face or a name. She was an avid reader; a coloring enthusiast; a card shark; an old-movie lover; a devoted soap opera and cartoon watcher; a lounge-chair game-show contestant who solved Wheel of Fortune puzzles as the wheel was still spinning and answered Jeopardy! questions before they were fully read. She was a puzzle maker who usually only lost one or two pieces, a crossword fiend who always made sure to “check her answers with the key,” and a true lover of all food and dining out. Paula lived life to the fullest and dearly loved her family. She possessed a beautiful innocence that remained untarnished, paired with a quiet strength and a steadfast path to hope. These qualities made her unique and, without her ever realizing it, cast a bright light on the lives of others. Paula was a long-time resident of Chalmette, Louisiana, until Hurricane Katrina relocated her to Mandeville, Louisiana, for several years. For the past seventeen years, she resided at Chateau de Notre Dame. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all of Paula’s caregivers over the years, especially the devoted staff at Chateau de Notre Dame; Sr. Mary Madonna Baudier, MSC; the compassionate doctors and staff at Touro Infirmary, University Medical Center, and Passages Hospice. A very special thank you is offered to her beloved cousin Rea, who always treated Paula with patience, generosity, and unconditional love. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Schoen’s, followed by interment at All Saints Mausoleum, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124.
