Sunny Breaux, of River Ridge, La., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 11, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children; at the age of 72. Born Claude Stephen Breaux Jr. on September 6, 1951, to Claude and Mary Breaux in New Orleans, La., he was given the nickname 'Sunny' by his mother since he was such a happy baby. After months of begging his parents for a guitar when he was 8 years old, he was given a toy guitar for Christmas, which broke right away but this minor setback did not deter his lifelong passion for music. Sunny attended Brother Martin until his family moved to Chalmette where he would graduate from Chalmette High School in 1969. After graduation he took college courses at Tulane University and also took on many jobs: a garbage man, a cake icer at Swiss Bakery, a piano salesman, and painted cars at a body shop just to name a few, all while performing with his band LA Lightning. He met Leslie in 1975 who would become his lifelong love and wife until his death. In 1978, he began a 46year career as an insurance agent and joined Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana and once received 'Agent of the Year' during his tenure there, but his proudest accomplishments were his commitment to raising his four children and his 48-year marriage to Leslie. Sunny and Leslie's life changed course in early 1983 when they dedicated their life to Christ. He played bass guitar at several churches across the New Orleans metro area. In 1998, he was an integral part in planting New Life Fellowship Church, in Westwego, La., where he was a respected church leader and worship team member for over 13 years. One of his greatest joys was sharing the gift of music with his children and 10 grandchildren. For the last 10 years, Sunny had the great pleasure of performing with his brother, Andy, in his band Redline, where they had residencies at both Blue Crab locations and several other venues around town. When he wasn't performing music live Sunny enjoyed honing his skills at home and played music nearly every day with his long-time high school friend, Mel. Sunny was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary. He is survived by his wife, Leslie; four children: Todd (Jessica), Chad (Rachel), Brian (Dawn), and Rachel (Zak); 10 grandchildren: Brison (11), Samson (10), Ally (9), Drew (9), Simon (8), Noella (6), Cullen (4), Wolfgang (3), Dottie (1), and Coco (1); and four siblings: Chris, Janet, Kenny and Andy; as well as several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family attended a Visitation and Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., in Metairie, La., on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
