CCSB Hygiene Drive
Throughout the month of August, please help join the Community Center of St. Bernard by providing essential hygiene products to help families begin each day with a fresh, clean start. Drop Point: 7143 St. Claude Ave., in Arabi. Donation items can include razors, deodorant, bandages, face cloths, wipes, lotions and more. Disaster Preparedness for Small Businesses
Join the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce for their next Professional Development Session on disaster preparedness for businesses on Wednesday, August 14 starting at 9 a.m.. This event will take place at the Sheriff's Office Training Center, 2 Courthouse Sq., in Chalmette; and will have guest speakers from Homeland Security, NOAA, St. Bernard Sheriff's Office, and St. Bernard Fire Department. 10th Annual Startup St. Bernard
Startup St. Bernard, the Gulf South's largest 'shark tank' style pitch competition, is back this fall for the 10th time! Think you're up for the challenge? Now's the time to put your best foot forward and see if you have what it takes to bring home a game-changing prize package for your business. Three finalists will be selected to 'pitch' their business to a panel of judges on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Nunez Community College, 3710 Paris Rd., in Chalmette; from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

SBVFC Community Fashion Show and Luncheon Fundraiser
The St. Bernard Volunteers for Family and Community (SBVFC) will be hosting a Community Fashion Show and Luncheon Fundraiser on Saturday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Maumus Center located at 721 Friscoville Avenue in Arabi. The cost is $40 which includes a delicious catered lunch. Tickets for the Parade of Prizes and 50/50 cash raffle will also be available for purchase. SBVFC members are planning an exciting fashion show with beautiful outfits from Aniston Lane, Cato, and Classy Chaos. This is SBVFC's major fundraiser for the year. Funds from this event will go toward SBVFC charities as well as the Scholarship Program for graduating high school seniors who are residents of St. Bernard Parish. 19th Annual Hurricane Katrina Commemoration
St. Bernard Parish Government will hold its annual community prayer service and wreath-laying ceremony on Thursday, August 29 at 9:30 a.m. to be held at the Katrina Memorial, 1320 Yscloskey Hwy., in Shell Beach. It will be the 19th anniversary since the destructive storm made landfall in southeast Louisiana.

The Restaurant Hangout
The St. Bernard Autism Awareness Krewe would like to host a social outing for adults with exceptionalities to help them make new friends, work on social skills, and the functional skills needed to independently thrive in a restaurant setting. The meal will be covered by the SBAAK. Individuals must be 18 and older, live in St. Bernard Parish, and have transportation to and from the restaurantTo help us work on these skills, we are asking families to drop off their child and pick them up at the designated time or wait outside of the private eating area until the group is finished. A survey will be sent out to the individual/families interested. We want to learn more about the individual, priorities of this program, and any specific needs to make this outing a success! The first hangout will be held on Thursday, August 29 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. More information to come soon about the name of the restaurant.Registration required. Class of 1984 AJ & CHS 40-Year Reunion
The Class of 1984 AJ & CHS 40-Year Reunion will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 7 p.m. at Abby Rose, located at 2900 Oak Ridge Blvd., in Violet. This event will be catered with an open bar and DJ. The cost of the ticket is $80 per person. The last day to purchase reunion tickets will be August 31. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Ad Valorem Millage Public Hearing
St. Bernard Parish Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 3 at 7 p.m. to be held at Council Chambers, 8201 W. Judge Perez Dr., in Chalmette. The Council will consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rates after reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year's maximum. The estimated amount of tax revenues to be collected in the next year from the increased millage is $29,390,606.73 and the amount of increase in taxes attributed to the millage increase is $626,027.87.

Los Isleños Society to Host Monthly Fundraiser Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society cordially invites the public to enjoy its fourth monthly Friday fried seafood dinner fundraiser in 2024, scheduled for August 9, between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Frank M. Fernandez, Jr. Isleños Center, 1357a Bayou Road, St. Bernard. The menu will consist of fried fish or shrimp or a combination plate of shrimp/fish and a choice of two side dishes from four options consisting of baked macaroni, green bean casserole, coleslaw or French fries, for $16 per plate. Soft drinks, water and desserts will be available for $1 each. The final fried seafood dinner fundraiser in 2024 is scheduled for Friday, September 13. Please attend and help the Society to fund its educational and public outreach programs in addition to structural maintenance efforts throughout Los Isleños Museum Complex.
