With deep love and profound sadness, the family of Maria Nunez Hernandez, age 62, announces that she went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 18, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Maria entered her eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, and unwavering devotion. Born on November 5, 1963, Maria was the daughter of the late Joseph “Dewey” Nunez and Augustine “Whitey” Nunez. She was preceded in death by her parents, who welcomed her into heaven with open arms. She was also the beloved daughter-in-law of the late James “Buddy” Hernandez Sr. and Betty Arcement Simmons, who cherished her as part of their family. Maria lived her life with purpose, tenderness, and grace. She adored her granddaughters and treasured every moment spent with her family and friends. Whether she was quilting, cooking meals that brought people together, or simply sharing time in fellowship, Maria poured love into everything she did. Above all, Maria was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. She spent countless hours in the Word, drawing strength from Scripture, and she was known as a true prayer warrior---someone who interceded faithfully and believed wholeheartedly in God’s promises. Her faith was her foundation, her comfort, and her gift to everyone who knew her. Maria’s life was a testament to perseverance, kindness, and the power of unwavering faith. Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her. The family takes comfort in knowing that Maria is now healed, whole, and rejoicing in the presence of her Savior. Services to be held July 19, 2026 at The Tabernacle Church, 4302 East Judge Perez Drive in Meraux, LA from 4:30pm to 7:00pm
