A former resident of Chalmette, Louisiana, he was born on February 11, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to his loving parents, the late Joseph A. Ferrier and Joyce Fetter Ferrier. Richard is the beloved husband of 59 years to Betty Gonzales Ferrier, whose partnership and love were the foundation of cherished marriage. Together, they built a family that was the center of Richard’s world and the source of his greatest pride. He is the adored father of Cathleen Ferrier Polit (Mike), Richard Ferrier, and Kevin Ferrier (Alina), and the late Michael Ferrier; proud grandfather of Lacie Dietrich, Michael Dietrich, Kaitlin Polit, Abbigale Harris (Hampton), and Ashton Ferrier; and great- grandfather of Tyelor, Gavin, Jayden, Noah, and Koralye Dietrich. Both of his siblings, Mary-Ellen Ferrier and Ronald Ferrier, preceded Richard in death. Richard graduated from John McDonough High School. He bravely served as a Sergeant in the United States National Guard, a role that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to others. In his professional life, he served as Vice President of Southern Battery, where his strong work ethic and dependable nature earned the respect of those who knew him. Richard embraced life with enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors and hands-on pursuits. He especially loved camping at Buccaneer State Park, where he won multiple Ping-pong Championships and created memories that his family and friends will long remember. He enjoyed fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and satisfaction. In addition, he had a passion for woodworking, finding joy in creating with his hands, and he took great pride in manicuring his lawn, always keeping it with care and attention. These interests reflected his patient, thoughtful nature and his appreciation for doing things well. Richard will be remembered as a man of loyalty and kindness. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the memories he helped create. Though Richard is no longer with us, the impact of his life remains deeply woven into the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
