In unpacking a recently received box of books, I found a copy of a 1973 compilation of pecan recipes collected by the H.M.Thames Pecan Co., Inc. of Mobile, Alabama called Pecan Cookery. Their pecans are the Azalea brand. The company was started in 1933.

School Board Elects Officers for 2026

The St. Bernard Parish School Board elected who would be serving as their board president and vice president for the rest of the 2026 calendar year during their January 27 meeting.

State Testing Begins in April

State testing will take place for St. Bernard Parish students throughout the months of April and May. Computer-based testing will be given to grades 3-8. High school students taking Algebra I, Geometry, English I, English II, Biology, Civics and U.S.

Kiwanis Club Hosts 2026 Krewe of Majestic Miracles Ball

The special needs community in St. Bernard Parish recently kicked off the Mardi Gras season. On Saturday, January 24, the Kiwanis Club of St. Bernard-Arabi hosted its annual Krewe of Majestic Miracles Ball, selecting the krewe’s 2026 royalty and allowing them to march in a second line.

I don’t know about you, but I sure am confused about all this current debate over gender equity, gay rights, and transgender individuals. I keep reading in the newspaper about LGBT. I had to look up the lettering to even know what the abbreviation means.
