St. Bernard BPW Club Holds Bell Ringing for Parish Veterans

Prior to the start of St. Bernard Salutes America festivities, St. Bernard Parish Vietnam War Veterans and the St. Bernard Parish Business and Professional Women’s Club gathered to hold their annual Liberty Bell ringing ceremony in front of the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center in Chalmette to celebrate the 247th anniversary of the United States’ independence from Great Britain.

At the latest St. Bernard Parish council meeting— which was held on Wednesday, July 5 rather than its usual Tuesday date due to the July 4 holiday— an intense argument broke out between council members over how they should enforce an ordinance banning imported shrimp they adopted in late 2022.
