Shelton Ray McMillan, a longtime resident of Chalmette, LA, passed away suddenly on September 1, 2016 at the age of 71. He was born September 7, 1944 in Clinton, Louisiana and was a native of Kentwood, Louisiana. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1962 and was part of the State Champion football team in 1958 as a freshman. He worked for many years at Kaiser Aluminum in Chalmette, LA, was a member of the International Boilermakers Local 37, and Thermal Engineering. He was a board member for Knights of Nemesis Carnival Club in St. Bernard, Louisiana. He is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Minnie Deborah Jenkins McMillan, daughters LaMinda McMillan Pilie’ (Clay) and Shannon McMillan Fernandez (Danny), grandchildren Daniel Robert Fernandez, Jr., Scot McMillan Pilie’, Leighann Nicole Fernandez, and Mallory Ray Pilie’. He is also, survived by his brother, Gerald McMillan (Emily), sister, Beverly McMillan Gex (A.Gex), and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Fernie McMillan, mother, Eula Elizabeth Travis McMillan, and brothers, Edward “Lard” McMillan and Mackie McMillan (Bonnie). He was a friend to all and a stranger to none. Shelton loved a good joke, good music, boiled crawfish, dancing, the Saints, the Fighting Tigers, Mardi Gras, a perfectly grilled steak, and a good time. Most of all, he loved his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Reminiscence Palace, 5009 East St. Bernard Hwy, Violet, LA. 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Prayers will begin at 11:15 a.m. followed by shared memories from his family and friends. Wear your favorite LSU or Saints attire.
