Herman Melerine

Herman Melerine, a native of St. Bernard Parish and recent resident of Slidell, LA, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the age of 87. Herman is survived by two children, Karen Melerine Riehm (Chuck) and Gary Michael Melerine Sr. (Donna); and six grandchildren, Rebecca Thibodeaux, Scott Riehm, Gary Melerine Jr., Matthew Riehm, Melissa Ory, and Michael Melerine. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. Herman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ethel Francis Melerine, as well as Edward Melerine (Father), Marie M. Melerine (Mother), Melton Melerine (Brother), Shirley Gioe (Sister), and Anna Mae Salande (Sister). While knowing life as temporary, Herman lived his to the fullest, loving to both dance and fish. With Ethel by his side, he is now undoubtedly sitting aside Heaven’s bountiful fishing hole, tapping his foot to a perfect beat. As heaven’s angels currently surround Herman, his family extends their gratitude to the many angels on earth who supported him during his recent times of need. Thank you to Dr. Edward St. Martin and his staff for providing many years of excellent medical care; to Synergy Home Health Care and Canon Hospice, whose compassion and devotion were uplifting during difficult times; and to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Camellia Gardens Retirement Community, who embraced Herman as a resident with heartfelt care and kindness. Relatives and friends attended the funeral services held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home in Chalmette, LA on Thursday, January 30, 2014.
