Underage Car Thieves Stopped by Sheriff’s Office
Two teenage girls, ages 15 and 11, were arrested on Friday, Sept. 25 after a one day long spree of car theft that occurred on Thursday, Sept. 24. Officially, the two girls, not even old enough to drive, were booked for “simple robbery, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and one count of the theft.” The older of the two girls was also booked for a July warrant of theft of a motor vehicle in Arabi. According to a press release sent out by the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, the children infiltrated the homes of two different elderly residents by asking to “come inside and use the phone.” From there, the girls then stole wallets and keys and drove away in the stolen vehicles. “Through eye witness accounts and video surveillance,” detectives were able to quickly identify and arrest the two young perpetrators, who immediately admitted to the crimes once taken into custody.
