St. Bernard man gets 10 years for 'self-defense' killing
Kory Mattox, 26, will spend 10 years in prison for the 2014 shooting death of Ricky Moser in Violet.
On March 11, Mattox pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 34th Judicial District Court to avoid a possible life sentence. He had been in custody since 2015 claiming he shot Moser in self-defense.
At the time of the shooting, Mattox was dating Raquel Nicolosi, the daughter of Moser’s estranged wife, Tammy Martin. Mattox began anonymously harassing Moser via text message and telephone calls before revealing that he was at Martin’s home. When an enraged Moser arrived at the home, he struck Nicolosi with a collapsible baton, opening a cut above her eye. Mattox grabbed a shotgun and fatally shot Moser.
