SBPG officials help secure funding for fisheries

Last August, St. Bernard Government officials and leaders in the local fishing and oyster harvesting industry traveled to Washington, DC to seek relief from the federal government after the US Army Corps of Engineers opened the Bonnet Carre’ spillway to alleviate pressure on the Mississippi River levees.

As a consequence of Corps’ actions, trillions of gallons of river water flowed into Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Borgne, and the Mississippi Sound over a period of 123 days and adversely impacted our commercial fishermen and marine life.
