Save Louisiana Coalition stages diversion protest

The Save Louisiana Coalition (SLC)—a non-profit coastal advocacy group— staged a protest last week in Braithwaite, against the construction of the state’s proposed, large-scale river diversions. The group set up their demonstration at the Caernarvon diversion just outside of the St. Bernard floodwall. President of the SLC, Captain George Ricks, planned this demonstration to coincide with a tour of the Caernarvon area that was to be given to the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Coastal Restoration, and led by the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA). According to the CPRA, the goal of the tour was to show how much land has been sustained by the diversion.
