Report: Deputy accused of sexual abuse still on SBSO payroll
The New Orleans Advocate reported last week that the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office paid $200,000 in March to a woman who was sexually abused by a guard in the parish jail and that the guard in question remains on the department’s payroll.
The settlement concluded a lawsuit brought in December 2016 by the woman, who was 15 at the time she was incarcerated in the St. Bernard Jail from June 2015 to January 2016. The plaintiff alleged Deputy Eddie Williams, 69, ordered her to disrobe and perform sexual acts in front of a surveillance camera. A subsequent investigation produced reports from other inmates about violent and sexually abusive behavior perpetrated by Williams toward inmates.
The Advocate reports Williams was placed on paid leave during the investigation but that he remains employed in the SBSO’s fleet maintenance division. Calls to the Pohlmann seeking comment on the story were not returned by press time.
