Peralta to take medical leave of absence

According to multiple reports, St. Bernard Parish President Dave Peralta has been diagnosed with a common form of skin cancer, and he will likely take a leave of absence of as many as six weeks in order to undergo a surgical procedure and allow time for recovery. President Peralta told his staff on Monday that he has been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, which is a slow-growing and non-life-threatening form of skin cancer. It is the most common form of cancer.
