Former judge and School Board member Perry Nicosia was sworn in last week as St. Bernard Parish’s first new district attorney in 35 years after longtime DA Jack Rowley, who recently passed away, declined to seek re-election. Nicosia avoided a runoff election, taking 50.62 percent of the vote against Glenn Diaz and Mike Gorbaty, both assistant district attorneys under Rowley. He was sworn in November 14 to serve the rest of Rowley’s term and will be sworn in again in January to begin his first full term as district attorney.
