Multi-parish meeting to spotlight legal, health effects of BP oil spill
On April 13, one week prior to the ninth anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and BP oil spill, a program is planned to gather those affected by the man-made disaster and those who may still be affected.
The Disappearing Victims BP Memorial Video Conference will begin at 1 p.m. at the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex at 8201 Judge Perez Drive to discuss the continuing fallout from the oil spill. Organizer Sheree Kerner of Metairie, who lost her husband to cancer that formed following exposure to chemicals from the spill and subsequent cleanup efforts, encourages anyone who worked on the spill, family of those exposed and anyone who breathed in the air from the coast following the spill to attend. The program will also be streamed live on Facebook and Twitter.
“The only way I can honor (my husband) is by helping other people stay alive. Had we known then what we know now, he would have had a shot at living,” said Kerner.
