McInnis likely to vote against three charter amendments

By Chad M. West
Parish Council Chairman Guy McInnis revealed at a Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday that he is likely to vote against several of the proposals to amend the parish’s home rule charter. Those measures require council approval before being placed on a ballot for a vote by parish residents. One of the more controversial measures would grant the Parish Council significant hiring authority, which McInnis said he believes is too extensive. The parish charter currently allows the Council to hire only its clerk of council and clerical assistants, but the proposed change would remove that restriction. “It gives the council overreaching [authority],” he said. “You could hire all kinds of people at that point. I think it’s too broad.”
