Council holds first publicly attended meeting since March
The St. Bernard Parish Council held its first publicly attended meeting of the social distancing era on May 19, less than a week after Louisiana initiated Phase 1 Reopening protocols.
The emergence of the coronavirus pandemic in March forced the council to cancel several meetings before transitioning to a live streaming format online, with public comments submitted via email. Council members met at Council Chambers in Chalmette to hold those meetings, but the public was not allowed to attend due to Gov. John Bel Edwards’ social distancing rules preventing public gatherings of 10 or more people.
