Carolon Craft to ll late husband's term on St. Bernard School Board
By Jason Browne
At its Oct. 23 meeting, the St. Bernard Public School Board replaced the late career educator and District 6 School Board Representative Dr. Hugh Craft with career educator and Dr. Craft’s widow Carolon Craft. A special election was held just prior to the regular school board meeting at which the school board elected Carolon to fill the remainder of her late husband’s term. She was then sworn in by 4th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Daniel Dysart in order to sit for her first school board meeting.
Carolon Craft will fill the remainder of Dr. Craft’s term through the end of December. St. Bernard Superintendent Doris Voitier said Carolon is expected to be re-appointed in January to fill the seat until a special election in March. Dr. Craft was unopposed for reelection on the Nov. 6 ballot, but his death on Oct. 9 occurred after the date when ballots could be altered. Voitier said representatives from the Secretary of State’s Office advised that March was the soonest a special election could be held to elect a permanent replacement.
