Legal Clinics at the St. Bernard Parish Library

The St. Bernard Parish Library and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) are pleased to announce a new monthly series of one-on-one sessions for patrons with legal questions on a variety of non-criminal topics. Legal subjects available for discussion and possible legal representation include Bankruptcy, Divorce, Custody, Collection Matters, Landlord-Tenant Disputes, FEMA/Disaster Benefits, Food Stamps, Foreclosures, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI/SSDI, Successions, Taxes and Wills. Documents can also be notarized.

Finalists, Judges and Sponsors of Sixth Annual Start-up St. Bernard announced

Start-up St. Bernard organizers, the Meraux Foundation and St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation, announced the three finalists selected to compete in the $100,000 business competition: CORE: Louisiana Counseling & Recovery Center, LLC, Green Street, and Jessie. The Sixth annual Start-up St. Bernard competition is being held on Monday, March 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Meraux Foundation’s Docville Farm (5128 E. St. Bernard Hwy., Violet).

Oyster Shell Recycling coming to to St. Bernard

The Meraux Foundation, the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL), St. Bernard Parish Government, and Two C’s Enterprises, Inc. have partnered to bring oyster shell recycling to St. Bernard Parish. It officially launched at last weekend’s Los Isleftos Fiesta, where bins were placed to collect shells to be used in coastal restoration projects.

St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Partners with New Orleans Mission in the Fight Against Addiction

The New Orleans Mission and the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office have formed new partnership that they hope will help struggling addicts in St. Bernard Parish find recovery instead of ending up behind bars. During a special event today at the New Orleans Mission’s Giving Hope Retreat in Lacombe, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann announced the department’s participation in the New Orleans Mission’s Operation Angel initiative. St. Bernard is the third law enforcement agency in the Greater New Orleans area to adopt this program in partnership with the New Orleans Mission.
