St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office activates new criminal activity tip hotline

Citizens who want to share information with detectives about criminal activity pertaining to St. Bernard Parish or any of its residents, can do so anonymously through the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau’s new tip hotline, 504.271. TIPS or 8477, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

SBPG: Too soon for budget projections

Louisiana is predicting a $1 billion shortfall in its fiscal year 2021 budget due to the ailing oil and gas industry and sales tax lost to the coronavirus quarantine. Plaquemines Parish is predicting a $7.5 million shortfall and eyeing 7 mills in tax increases. But St. Bernard Parish is in no rush to predict a shortfall nor propose solutions to climb out of one.

Meraux Fnd. awards 60 St. Bernard graduates with scholarships

The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation announced the Class of 2020 recipients of its annual scholarship program today. The charity awards 60 scholarships each year: fifty for academic achievement, four for artistic accomplishment, and six for Career Technical Education (CTE). To date, the Meraux Foundation has awarded some 900 scholarships to St. Bernard Parish public high school graduates.

Fifth grader Elyse Clare Dysart named Louisiana Non-Public Student of the Year

Elyse Clare Dysart, daughter of David and Nicole Diecidue Dysart of Meraux, has been named the Louisiana Non-Public Student of the Year’s District Winner for the Fifth Grade Division by the Archdiocese of New Orleans’s Office of Catholic Schools. On Thursday, May 7, the Archdiocese Superintendent, Dr. RaeNell Houston, presented Elyse with her award in front of her home alongside her family members, friends, teachers and principal in attendance. Paris Road Overlay Project Update

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development began the LA Highway 47 (Paris Road) overlay project extending from the Intracoastal Bridge (Green Bridge) to the St. Bernard Highway intersection in mid-March. St. Bernard Parish residents can expect daytime, alternating lane closures throughout this week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as the milling and overlay work continues.
