Nunez Baseball hosts signing ceremony for graduating players
The Nunez Community College baseball program made history again today when it celebrated its first two student athletes ever to sign National Letters of Intent to play NCAA Baseball. Battery mates Dominic Curole and Austin Fontenot each signed agreements that will allow them to continue their college baseball careers together at Division II Salem University in West Virginia for 2020 and 2021.
Athletic Director Becky Maillet hosted the signing ceremony today at the Kane Technology Building on the Nunez campus. Head Coach Glenn Powell and a majority of their teammates stood by their sides in a show of support at the milestone event that was also attended by the players’ parents, families, and friends, as well as several Nunez staff.
Curole, a pitcher and centerfielder who has also seen duty behind the plate, is one of the top hitters on the team and has led the team in home runs the last two seasons. His strong pitching arm as well as his speed both on the base paths and in the outfield has proven invaluable to the team’s success. Dominick is a graduate of Chalmette High School where he also excelled in football and track. In April of 2017, Curole was recognized as the Amateur Athlete of the Year by the St. Bernard Sports Hall of Fame.
