The St. Bernard Parish school system received word this week that it will be receiving another year’s worth of funding for its alternate certification program for new teachers, said Assistant Superintendent Bev Lawrason. The program provides a path for candidates to become certified teachers in St. Bernard by being mentored by current teachers, attending a series of workshops and a four-week summer program. Candidates also have to pass the PRAXIS certification exam in their fields and be evaluated by a St. Bernard Parish school principal.
