Stanley John Sirgo

Stanley John Sirgo passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the age of 84. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Peltz Sirgo. Loving father of Karen Sirgo Trowbridge (Fred) and Stanley “Jay” Sirgo Jr. (Kim). Son of the late Louis J. Sirgo Sr. and Elvina Leonard Sirgo. Brother of the late Louis J. Sirgo Jr.and Elaine Sirgo Hamilton. Proud grandfather of Michele (Brad), Fred III, Jace (Robin), Renee (Matt), and Kelsey. Great-grandfather of Shelby, Jace Jr., Kyle, Jonah, Claire, Vivian and Julia. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Stanley served 38 years with the Army National Guard, and as anenlisted man, rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He ended his career as the Safety Manager for the LA National Guard with the rank of CW4 Chief Warrant Officer. He was an avid runner and member of the Southern Runner’s Association. Stanley was one of the founders of the Chalmette Booster Club and served 13 terms as President. He enjoyed coaching football. Stanley served 12 years as Justice of the Peace Ward C. He donated his time and effort to the St. Bernard Cripple Children Association. He received the Humanitarian Award and was honored with induction into the Sports Hall of Fame. He was a proud Eagle Scout. Stanley was well loved by his family and the community he served, and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home in Chalmette, LA on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., followed by a memorial mass beginning at 12 p.m. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Greenwood Cemetery.
