The Chalmette High School marching band will proudly don their maroon and gold for this year's parade season.

Carnival season is upon us!

By Jack Tiebout.

The tubas are perfecting their rumbling low notes. The Charmers are synchronizing their high kicks. The kings and queens are putting the final touches on their gaudy ensembles. Yes it's true, carnival season is upon us.
Lourdes Ball
The first major event in St. Bernard is the Krewe of Lourdes, set for the evening of Saturday, February 15. Held by the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Violet, the ball is a Mardi Gras tradition dating back to 1949. It started when the church organist, Helen Selle, needed money for a new organ and decided to throw a ball in Braithwaite Auditorium in order to fund it. It has been held in the Frederick J. Sigur Auditorium in Chalmette since 1969.
